YouTube Video Description

Join us aboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas as we sail through one of Alaska’s most breathtaking fjords—Endicott Arm toward Dawes Glacier—and experience the famous North Star Extended Premium Tour. On this Alaska cruise from Seattle to Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Endicott Arm, Dawes Glacier, and Victoria, Canada, we booked the $109 per person extended North Star tour, scheduled between 5:00 and 10:00 a.m. In our case, the timing worked out perfectly: at 6:40 a.m., we were directly in front of Dawes Glacier, and our North Star ride began at that exact moment. Before boarding the ride, guests wait in a small lounge area where they serve hot chocolate and cookies, a nice touch while watching the glacier approach. Then comes the highlight: stepping into the North Star glass capsule, which first extends out over the port side, then rises straight up to nearly 300 feet above sea level, shifts toward the starboard side, slowly rotates, and finally descends back to the deck. The entire experience lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, and our ride ended around 7:00 a.m. The North Star is not just any observation ride—it holds a Guinness World Record as the tallest viewing deck on a cruise ship, making this one of the most unique experiences at sea. From the top, you get incredible panoramic views of Quantum of the Seas, the surrounding Alaskan wilderness, and the massive Dawes Glacier calving into the icy waters below. In this video, we share our honest experience and recommendation. If you can afford the $109 per person, we absolutely recommend trying it at least once—it’s a truly unique way to see both the ship and the glacier from a perspective you can’t get anywhere else on board. That said, if the price feels high, don’t worry—you can still enjoy amazing glacier views from the top decks of the ship without booking the tour. Whether you’re planning an Alaska cruise, curious about the North Star ride, or deciding if the extended premium tour is worth it, this video will help you decide.
