Wednesday evening, November 11, "Jacques Saade arrived at RWG for the first time in the port of Rotterdam. This is the new flagship of CMA CGM, the French ship owner that is the first container shipping company to run a significant part of its fleet on LNG (liquefied natural gas), a considerably cleaner fuel than conventional fuel oil. Jacques Saade is also the first LNG-powered vessel with a capacity of more than 23,000 TEU containers on board. CMA CGM has eight more of these Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs) built by Hudong - Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a wholly owned subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. By 2022, the shipping company aims to have a fleet of twenty LNG-powered ships in service: nine 23,000 TEU ships; five 15,000 TEU ships and six 14,000 TEU ships. Early this morning - Thursday, November 12 - Total's "Gas Agility" began bunkering 18,000 m3 of LNG (liquefied natural gas) in the Jacques Saade. The operation takes approximately 16 hours. The largest LNG bunker ship in the world has been specially built to quickly bunk these ULCVs (Ultra Large Container Vessels) with liquefied natural gas simultaneously with transhipment. Nederlands Woensdagavond, 11 november arriveerde ’ voor de eerste maal Jacques Saade bij RWG in de haven van Rotterdam. Dit is het nieuwe vlaggenschip van CMA CGM, de Franse scheepseigenaar die als eerste containerrederij een belangrijk deel van zijn vloot laat varen op LNG (vloeibare aardgas), een aanzienlijke schonere brandstof dan het gangbare stookolie. Jacques Saade is ook het eerste door LNG aangedreven schip met een capaciteit van meer dan 23.000 TEU containers aan boord. CMA CGM laat nog acht van deze ULCV’s (Ultra Large Container Vessels) bouwen door Hudong - Zhonghua Shipbuilding, een volle dochteronderneming van China State Shipbuilding Corporation. In 2022 wil de rederij een vloot van twintig op LNG aangedreven schepen in de vaart hebben: negen 23.000 TEU schepen; vijf 15.000 TEU schepen en zes 14.000 TEU schepen. Vanmorgen vroeg – donderdag 12 november – begon de ‘Gas Agility’ van Total met het bunkeren van 18.000 m3 LNG (vloeibaar aardgas) in de Jacques Saade. De operatie duurt ongeveer 16 uur. Het grootste LNG bunkerschip ter wereld is speciaal gebouwd om snel, gelijktijdig met de overslag, deze ULCV’s (Ultra Large Container Vessels) te bunkeren met vloeibaar aardgas.
