It's the first port of call EVER on the inaugural sailing of the Carnival Mardi Gras as she ports in San Juan, Puerto Rico! The beautiful Mardi Gras was also the first ship to visit San Juan since the cruising shutdown some 16 months earlier. There was a big celebration to welcome the Mardi Gras and Carnival Cruise Line to San Juan. I went on a walking tour of the port. This was my fourth solo cruise. I start off the day with a breakfast burrito from Blue Iguana Cantina, followed by a coffee from Java Blue. I then get off the ship in beautiful San Juan to being a walking tour of Old San Juan. I visit a church, shops, and several other tourist destinations while making my way toward the Save A Gato cat sanctuary. The Carnival Mardi Gras was the first ship to sail from Port Canaveral in over 15 months. The Mardi Gras is the brand new ship from Carnival Cruise Line, the first of its Excel Class of ships.
