YouTube Video Description↓

This is a short video previewing the next epic Ship Safari that will be coming to MidShipCinema in early 2024. In 1997, after years of anticipating and months of planning, Peter Knego ventured off to the Ukraine to visit the forgotten and forlorn former Cunard liners, the 1954-built LEONID SOBINOV (ex SAXONIA, CARMANIA) and the 1955-built FEDOR SHALYAPIN (ex IVERNIA, FRANCONIA). Having spent their past two decades of service in Soviet and later Ukrainian hands, both liners had been laid up for several years and would soon be headed for the scrap heap. Although faded, these two classic beauties were still largely as they had been in their final Cunard years, thanks to their quality construction and their owners' inability to afford significant updates.
