Discovering Hidden Gems in Costa Maya, Mexico | Carnival Jubilee Day in Port | ChiBang & 80s Party

Explore the vibrant port of Costa Maya, Mexico with me as I set off from Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Jubilee to discover what this beautiful destination has to offer—beyond the usual shopping and dining. Costa Maya has grown into one of the most popular cruise ports in the Western Caribbean, known for its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture. Originally developed as a cruise destination, Costa Maya is now a hub of activity with a mix of modern amenities and authentic local charm. I started my day early, determined to explore the port on my own and find activities that were either free or reasonably priced. Although I’ve visited Costa Maya before, I realized there’s so much more to do here than I initially thought. My adventure led me to a fascinating spot called Aviarius—a bird aviary suspended over the port area. This unique attraction offers breathtaking views, refreshing breezes, and an up-close experience with a variety of birds. For just $14 USD per adult, you can take your time exploring the suspended bridges, bird-filled structures, and water features—all while filming your experience! While enjoying the aviary, I caught glimpses of the dolphins at the nearby dolphin excursion area. Afterward, I indulged in some homemade guacamole, chips, and a yard of margarita at a cozy spot facing the ships and pier, right next to the dolphins. It was the perfect way to relax and savor the flavors of Mexico. A quick shopping trip followed, where I found great deals near the flamingos at the aviary before leisurely making my way back to the ship. Back onboard the Carnival Jubilee, I couldn’t resist dining at ChiBang—the Asian and Mexican fusion restaurant that is currently included in the cruise fare. However, this may change in the future, with only the first visit included and subsequent dinners costing $8 per person. ChiBang will always offer lunch at no additional cost. Despite being busy, the dinner was incredible, and I highly recommend trying it out during your cruise. The evening wrapped up with the iconic 80s Rock and Glow Deck Party, a high-energy event that’s famous across the Carnival fleet.
