About Episode 010: In this episode we visit El Rincon de la Vieja for the Guachipelin Adventure tour. Provided by Native's Way based in Tamarindo, this full-day tour included horseback riding, tubing on the Rio Colorado, zip lining through slot canyons, and a mud treatment at Rio Negro hot springs to end our day. Transportation was provided and our bilingual tour guide did an incredible job providing the historical background of El Rincon de la Vieja while providing comic relief along the way to keep a positive vibe among our group. With only a short break for lunch, this tour was loaded full of activities and had us wishing we hadn't forgotten our morning coffee. The tour bus departed our hotel in Tamarindo promptly at 6:30am and only stopped for a quick breakfast and bathroom break near Liberia. I highly recommend you take this opportunity to use the restroom and grab high-protein snacks to keep you energized throughout the day. In addition, make sure you have ample water, especially if you are traveling with kids. If you know me, horses are not my favorite animal. Yes they are beautiful and majestic, but they are also very large and powerful animals, which is a bit terrifying. However, this part of the tour was actually a lot of fun. We were provided great instruction and followed an established path where we all became confident horseback riding. However, we neglected to give Kingston his allergy medicine and he had the worst allergy attack to begin the day. If you or your children have animal allergies, make sure to take an antihistamine before the tour. Although the water in the Rio Colorado is a bit chilly, it was more the lack of sun in the canyon that made us cold during the tubing part of the tour. There is very little light hitting the river and you may get a bit cold, but it wasn't very bad. There are options when booking the tour including driving on your own or only doing some of the activities. I highly recommend you check out Native's Way for any tours while visiting Tamarindo, they will take care of you!
