On November 8, 2022, the HAVILA CAPELLA (IMO 9865570) was christened in Fosnavåg, Norway, in front of Havila kystruten’s head office in Mjølstadneset. Godmother was Hege Sævik Rabben, board member and daughter of Havila founder Per Sævik. During the christening ceremony, it was again emphasized how the name of the HAVILA CAPELLA and the names of her sister ships came about: It all started when the chairman and main shareholder Per Sævik announced a naming competition for the four passenger ships to his eight grandchildren. The idea had been that the names should be Havila followed by a star name. “The names of all our four ships are guiding stars. Throughout history, Capella, Castor, Polaris and Pollux have been used for navigation at sea and as guides for seafarers” explained Per Sævik during the naming ceremony. “Like her sister ships, the characteristics of the HAVILA CAPELLA make her a guiding star along the coast. We sailed the World Heritage Site Geirangerfjord with zero-emissions already 4 years ahead of regulatory requirements and have vessels built to meet future needs and opportunities for zero-emissions cruising. So it is fitting that HAVILA CAPELLA is named after a guiding star,” added Managing Director Bent Martini. The population was invited to take part in the christening ceremony, and despite the rainy weather, numerous guests from Fosnavåg came to celebrate. A few days after the HAVILA CAPELLA had been christened in Fosnavåg, Norway, the sister ship, the HAVILA CASTOR (IMO 9865582), was christened on November 14th. This time the naming ceremony took place in Ålesund. The ship’s godmother was Aurora Sævik, granddaughter of Havila’s founder and CEO, Per Sævik. Aurora Sævik felt incredibly proud and lucky to be the godmother of HAVILA CASTOR, she said. She had already helped choose the names of the four coastal liners. Like her sister ships, HAVILA CASTOR is named after a star that is important for navigation. Havila kystruten is now looking ahead and looking forward to taking over the remaining two ships: HAVILA POLLUX (IMO 9946922) and HAVILA POLARIS (IMO 9946910).
