Join us as we take on the AB Mountain Trail in Skagway, Alaska — one of the toughest yet most rewarding hikes in the area. This strenuous trail climbs steeply from the forest floor to alpine ridges, offering breathtaking views of the Taiya Inlet, Dyea, and surrounding peaks. AB Mountain rises to about 5,052 feet (1,540 meters). The full hike is roughly 10–12 miles (16–19 km) round trip, taking 6–8 hours depending on pace and how far up you climb. Expect a mix of forested paths, steep rocky sections, rope-assisted climbs, and wide-open alpine terrain above the treeline. The higher you go, the more dramatic the views. Always stay alert, hike in groups if possible, and make noise to avoid surprising wildlife. Carry bear spray and know how to use it. Store food securely and never leave scraps on the trail.
