Using original video footage shot on board in 1995 and 2000, archival images and never before seen footage of the ship being scrapped at Alang in 2021, Peter Knego tells the full story of Carnival's pioneering MV HOLIDAY. In addition to a comprehensive top-to-bottom tour, he also shares how he was able to rescue a series of spectacular ceramic panels by the late Helen Webber and, after much toil, their arrival in California. The second newbuild for Carnival Cruises, the 1985-built HOLIDAY was the basic blueprint for an entire generation of Carnival ships. After leaving the Carnival fleet in 2009, the HOLIDAY became GRAND HOLIDAY for Iberocruceros and in 2014, the MAGELLAN for Cruise and Maritime Voyages. Were it not for Covid shutting down the cruise industry and bankrupting CMV, the ship might still be in service. Instead, she was run up on the beach at Alang, India and broken up in 2021 and 2022.
