The captain of our ship had to hand over the controls for us to pass through the Corinth Canal. We had INCHES to spare and sharp rocks under the water, it was incredible. This is the Corinth Canal, it’s a man-made waterway and the deepest canal in the world. I’ve just disembarked a cruise where our captain had to hand over control of the 37 million-dollar ship that I was on to a local tug boat pilot who would try to pull us through. To make things even more stressful, the Canal had been closed before this for almost two years following a landslide, it had just reopened. Thanks to the lovely people who let me use some of their footage in this video: Tips For Travellers: https://youtu.be/6q1a0xkaYUE?si=m2gbk51mJ0n0wYxx Simon Kranz: https://youtu.be/M4JVU2pDf5w?si=pnSwDMOjwsPgJL0a Footage of Azzurra: https://youtu.be/40-miXub1wo?si=dwqYkhQoAHC7bVMc I had so many questions going into this, how did PEOPLE make this, why did they bother and perhaps most importantly would our ship be okay. It was early in the morning when we approached the entrance to the canal. I’m not normally a morning person but I did not want to miss this. This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience and most of the guests were up on the top deck. We were all so excited to be able to stand outside on the ship as we went through the Canal. I wondered if the walls would be so close that I would be able to touch them and I enjoyed one of the mimosas that was being handed out. The captain told us that it was too windy for the drones that were planned to film our cruise through the canal. I hoped that the wind wouldn’t cause us any problems, you definitely don’t want this ship to be blown into the side. ▶ FREE COURSE.
