I thought, if I’m going to try out a new cruise line, I may as well try one of their most recent additions to the fleet, so I’ll be cruising onboard the Luminosa. We’ll be sailing from Brisbane for three nights to nowhere. Luminosa previously cruised with corporate sister, Costa Cruises, until it was announced in June 2022 that the ship was being transferred to Carnival, to operate seasonally from Brisbane. Launched in 2009, the Spirit Class ship bears some similarities to the much-loved Carnival Spirit and Carnival Legend that previously called Australia home. She’s around 90K gross tonnes, which in my experience is a bit of a sweet spot in terms of size. There were only modest changes made to the ship before she was transferred to Carnival Cruises - most notably, an updated paint job with Carnival’s new livery. Some of Carnival’s bar and dining venues were also added during her short dry dock. She did miss out on most of the cruise line’s Fun Ship 2.0 features, though Carnival has indicated that she will receive a more comprehensive update sometime in the future. Luminosa is also unique in that she lacks Carnival’s distinct whale-tail funnel, which first debuted in 1982. I’m really going to try and lean in to the Fun Ship experience, I’ve heard some great things about Carnival Cruises and though I have to admit I find the interiors aesthetically challenging, I’m going to try and embrace it all. At the very least, I’m confident I’ll find solace at the Alchemy Bar. In all seriousness though, I’m excited to try another cruise line, and another ship and you can expect to find my review on the channel soon, as well as a ship and cabin tours. Follow along live on Facebook and Instagram, otherwise I'll see you again on YouTube with lots of Luminosa content very soon! Thanks for watching.
