Starting at Athens International Airport, we make our way to the Gazi district, a dynamic neighborhood known for its street art, bars, and clubs. After checking in, we spend the evening at Shamone, a lively spot where we enjoy music and cocktails. The next morning begins with a solo hike to the Philopappos Monument for a sweeping view of the Acropolis at sunrise. The early light on the ancient city is a memorable sight and a perfect way to start the day. Afterward, we explore Plaka, Athens’ oldest district. Its streets are lined with artisan shops, where unique Greek crafts and souvenirs await. This is also a fantastic place for dining—Plaka’s tavernas serve up dishes like moussaka, grilled octopus, and local lamb, often paired with Greek wine. Byzantino is a local favorite that captures these flavors and provides an authentic experience of Greek cuisine. From there, we head to Ermou Street, a bustling pedestrian avenue full of shops and boutiques. Ermou leads us to Monastiraki Square, a vibrant spot where modern life blends with the city’s ancient past. Surrounded by a mix of architectural styles, the square is known for its flea market and energetic crowd, making it a great place to people-watch, browse for leather goods, and check out vintage finds. Our next stop is the Ancient Agora, a central gathering place in ancient Athens. Walking among its ruins, we can imagine Athenian life centuries ago, as it was once a bustling market and political center.
