Today was only 5 days or 5 hours, but it's still cold.

About our Bacon Score methodology
YouTube Video Description↓

Today is day 6 on our cruise and we are stopping in Ketchikan, AK. We are only in port for 5 hours so this is our most ambitious and rushed day. We have two excursions planned, the Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles Excursion through Carnival and also the Great Lumberjack Show booked through Carnival. The Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles Excursion is a wildlife viewing cruise. This tour offers abundant opportunities for wildlife viewing, including guaranteed sightings of the iconic American bald eagle. At just 60 ft. long, the tour vessels are the perfect size to navigate through the narrow channels around the small islands dotting the coastline, where these majestic birds of prey often like to perch. Possible sightings of other marine-based wildlife, include harbor seals, sea lions, jellyfish, seabirds, humpbacks and orca whales. Totem Bight State Historic Park: Your captain will pause along the shore of Totem Bight State Historic Park to provide you with full, panoramic views of 14 towering, hand-carved cedar Tlingit & Haida totem poles and an Alaska Native clan house. While there, you’ll learn about the history of the park and the vibrant, living indigenous cultures present in the region of Southeast Alaska. Guard Island Lighthouse: Cruise to Guard Island, where you’ll have the opportunity to view Guard Island Lighthouse backgrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the wild seascape and distant, snow-capped mountains. As one of Alaska’s first lighthouses, this unique site was built in 1904 and remains an active aid to navigation to this day. After the sightseeing cruise, we rushed to the Great Lumber Show. Step back in time to Alaska's timber heyday and uncover the fascinating stories of the frontier lumberjacks during the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show. Hear the echoes of their hard work in remote logging camps, as axes pounded, crosscut saws sang, and timber fell. Learn about the annual summer competitions in Ketchikan, where the toughest lumberjacks vied for the coveted title of "Bull of the Woods." Prepare to be captivated by the rich history of Alaska's timber industry and the brave men who shaped it. Both were fun, but I wish we would have had more time to explore the port. But since this was my first time in Alaska, I wanted to make sure I saw more than just the shops. Next time though, I would leave a couple hours to walk around and shop and sample the local beers.
