We also learned about the fate of cruise ship buffets as well as American’s ability to travel to Europe. Don’t worry if you are not up to date on all the news, we have you covered with our latest video covering all the major cruise headlines and news for July 5th. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! Royal Caribbean’s newest Quantum Ultra Class ship, Odyssey of the Seas was set to debut this Fall sailing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. With the impacts from COVID-19, along with a recently reported fire at the shipyard, this left many cruisers questioning whether the inaugural season would be delayed. Well, it is now official that Odyssey of the Seas is Delayed Until April 2021. Those affected by the cancellations can request a refund or receive a 125% future cruise credit for all monies paid towards their cruise. Royal Caribbean also reaffirmed that it will be keeping the popular Windjammer Buffet on its ships. During a call with travel partners, Royal Caribbean’s vice president of food and beverage operations did indicate that there would be modifications though such as employee service, individual portions, disposable tongs, and other details that are still being worked out. The good news is that the buffet will not be removed from ships in the fleet! In more cancellation news, Norwegian Cruise Line has officially cancelled its remaining cruises for September 2020. Namely, the cruise line claimed it was working closely with its shore partners and local governments in port towns in Alaska to still offer round trip cruises from Seattle on two vessels. However, Norwegian Cruise Line finally conceded this past week and officially cancelled the remaining summer cruises to Alaska on Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy. In other travel news, the European Union officially opened its borders to tourism as of July 1st. While Australians and Canadians will be allowed to visit, Americans will not due to the ongoing health concerns surrounding rising cases of COVID-19 in many states. The government agency will be updating the list of acceptable countries every two weeks and can add or remove countries based on current health conditions. Lastly, it was essentially confirmed that three Pullmantur vessels will be scrapped. The three ships in the Pullmantur fleet, which include the former Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas and Sovereign of the Seas as well as Celebrity Horizon, were stripped of value and are now reported to be on the way to a coastal town in Turkey known for its ship-scrapping business.
