Walking from Nash Point Lighthouse to Llantwit Major Beach on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast along the Wales Coast Path. Another great walk in Wales. This part of the South Wales Coast has some amazing geology and the beaches below the cliffs are great for fossil hunting and especially ammonites. You may recognise this stretch of coast as it has been used as a location in a number of episodes of Dr Who. The walk takes you along the dramatic cliffs past the 19th-century grade II listed lighthouse and the big horns of the Nash Point foghorn towards St Donats Bay. The 12th century St Donat's Castle is now an international school known as Atlantic College. It used to be owned by the newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst, he was the inspiration for Orson Welles in his character Citizen Kane. After St Donats Bay there is Tresilian Bay. The bay once had an inn which was said to be frequented by smugglers and pirates and the cliffs in the area are said to contain secret passages and tunnels. The bay is also meant to be haunted by a 15th-century pirate known as ‘Peter the Pirate’. Finally, it’s on to Llantwit Major Beach, many years ago, Irish and Viking raiders would come ashore here to attack the town of Llantwit Major and steal the valuables.
