In an exclusive interview with Travel And Tour World, Nikhil Desai, Managing Director, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, spoke about how Goa is re-positioning itself as a tourism destination for all seasons and for everyone. It is in the process of building the world class convention centre, theme park, hot air ballooning, amphibious vessels, paragliding etc. It has dedicated life guard support and is one of the safest states on India. Apart from being a popular adventure tourism spot, it is also famous for its indigenous bird-life with more than 425 species of exquisite birds. Also, Goa Tourism bagged the prestigious Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) award for the β€˜Best Wedding and Honeymoon Destination’ in this ITB Berlin 2015. The world famous wedding planners have already sent in their blue prints on how to develop the state as a wedding destination and with this award, it will help Goa to recognize the state as a leading destination for high end wedding celebrations. UNESCO has rated some of the best biodiversity hot spots in Goa across the Western Ghats. The state is now focusing on the heritage as well as eco-tourism. Last year, Goa reported 30% growth in the tourist number and this year as well it looks promising with the introduction of the e-visa by the central government. National geographic rated Goa as the 6th best nightlife destination. Three and half million tourists visited last year for witnessing the decennial event of exposition of Sir St. Francis Xavier. With some of the most ancient catholic monuments in Goa, excellent response has been received from the tourists of Western Europe, America and South America specially.
