Out of Control in Madrid… In the Best Way

Madrid at night hits different… and somehow this one got a little out of control (in the best way). After two full days exploring Madrid — walking tours, historic plazas, rooftop views, and soaking up the city — we thought we’d have a quiet evening with friends. Yeah… that didn’t happen 😄 We met up with Bill & Sue along with their friends Toby, Ana, and the kids for what we thought would be one quick stop… and it turned into a full tapas and pintxos crawl across the city. First up was La Venencia, believed to be one of the oldest sherry bars in Madrid. The place was absolutely packed — wall to wall people, standing room only, glasses clinking, and that classic old-school tavern energy. We tried a few different sherries and instantly understood why this spot is legendary. From there we wandered the streets looking for our next bite and landed at Restaurante Taberna Parrilla for pintxos and wine tasting… and somehow things just kept getting better. Next stop: Traca Madrid in Plaza de Santa Ana, known for creative Mediterranean dishes and their indoor charcoal grill. Chef Pedro helped us pick a few specialties and wow… every plate was a hit. By now we should’ve called it a night… But nope. Around 1:30am we joined the line outside Chocolatería San Ginés, the city’s most famous late-night churros café that’s been serving chocolate and churros for generations. Totally worth the wait. Hot chocolate. Fresh churros. Big laughs. Full hearts. One of those travel nights you never plan… but never forget.
