Paris Travel Guide One of the world’s most historic and most visited cities, Paris has something for everyone, and you could easily spend a month exploring her beauty. So many museums, gardens, art galleries, streets to strolls and patisseries to try! Unfortunately for my daughter Summer and I, we only had a few days... So, we've come up with a condensed touring guide for you to get the most of your travels to Paris, giving you the major sights you should see, plus some hidden gems we found. Eiffel Tower Standing at 276 meters, the Eiffel Tower can be seen from almost any part of Paris, you won’t miss it. We visited just before dusk, so could enjoy the view from the top both during daylight and at night, as its complexly different experience. Also, at night there is a cool light show performed on the Eiffel Tower numerous times a night. Arc de Triomphe One of the most famous monuments in Paris, located on the western end of the Champs-Elysees and opened in 1836. Makes sure you climb the stairs to the top, as the views of Paris are amazing in every direction, as you see the twelve radiating avenues that come off this massive roundabout. Champs-Élysées A great place to walk, people watch and do some window shopping as the famous Avenue is lined by expensive designer name brands. The Champs-Élysées stretches from the Arc de Triomphe all the way to Place de la Concorde. Place de la Concorde The largest public square in Paris and home to the many fountains, statues and of course the landmark Luxor Obelisk from Egypt. The views from the square in every direction are magical as you can see almost all of Paris’s major landmarks from the square. Musee du Louvre One of the largest and most visited art museums in the world, the Louvre is massive in every scale. Home to the famous Mona Lisa, make sure you visit early as the crowds are crazy. Also a good tip is to pre-book your tickets so you can skip the line. Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann When it comes to shopping in Paris, you need to visit Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, even if its just to walk around the store, looking at the art nouveau architecture, the stunning stained-glass dome and ultra-expensive French designer gear. Make sure you head up to the roof as there is a view platform (it's free) that affords great city views include the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Rue Cler We uncovered a local gem when we stumbled upon rue Cler (5 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower), one of Paris' most beloved market streets. Brimming with cafés, boulangeries and specialty shops, this is where local Parisians go for daily shopping. A great place to get away from the hordes of tourists. Left Bank – St Germain and Latin Quarter When people think of walking the alley ways and coble stone streets of Paris and sitting in a small café, they often think of the Latin Quarter, the Left Bank and St Germain. We wandered around, got lost and fell in love with this special part of Paris. Jardin du Luxembourg Or Luxembourg Gardens for us non French speakers out there. This is one of my favourite places in Paris, it's beautiful, away from the tourists’ crowds and a great place to unwind and enjoy the greenery. Dating back to 1612, the gardens are built in formal French style, truly lovely Pantheon Located in the Latin Quarter of Paris and modelled on the Pantheon in Rome, this version is also massive, built in the 1700’s as a church, but ended up as a burial site for famous French people, including Charles du Gaulle. Cathedrale Notre-Dame Built in 1163 this medieval catholic cathedral has been one of Paris’s most loved landmarks for centuries. Unfortunately, it was partly destroyed by fire, so there is on-going restoration work happening to retore it to its past glories. Seine River Cutting Paris in half, the Seine River flows through the city. We took an hour Seine River Cruise, and it was one of the most enjoyable parts of our time in Paris, as you get to see and experience the city from a different angle, great opportunity to get some wonderful photos as well. Trocadero Square Large open square above the fountains, water features and gardens du Trocadero offering dramatic views of Eiffel Tower. A great place to sit and watch Paris and the Eiffel Tower as it gives it good perspective. Hotel de Ville This is the City Hall, nothing to see for tourists, except the building itself is beautiful and worth a quick photo stop. Built in 1500’s in Renaissance Revival and French Renaissance architecture, its stunning.
