YouTube Video Description↓

This is the gorgeous island of Patmos in Greece, also known as The Island of the Apocalypse and Saint John's Island. Patmos is best known for Saint John the Apostle or Saint John the Theologian who had visions for The Book of Revelations on the island and dictated the book in a cave now known as The Church of the Apocalypse. A small cave with buildings around it, there is a pillow where Saint John is said to have laid his head. The monastery on the island is also named for Saint John. Saint John Monastery has some stunning frescos of the miracles Saint John was said to have performed. The Monastery is in the town Chora, where there are vacation homes for Athenians as well as homes built in Byzantine days, including 300-year-old Simandris House, which houses Asian and Western antiques. After seeing the sights and a town tour, we got to sample Greek meze/mezze at a restaurant that included traditional Greek dancing. It was the perfect way to end our day on Patmos. A small but scenic island in the Aegean Sea, Patmos is still popular for pilgrims today. The typical Greek whitewashed houses can be seen from the cruise ship. Both The Church of the Apocalypse and The 11-Century Monastery of Saint John are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
