Arriving before the park opens, we find it unbelievably quiet, with fewer than 20 people inside, giving us a rare chance to experience the wave pool, lazy river, and Crush ’n’ Gusher with almost no wait times. Even with the cool air, the water temperature turns out to be perfect, making for a surprisingly great morning at the water park. After a few hours, we head back toward the villa, stopping along the way for a long-awaited Swirl World ice cream at Racetrac. From there, the day takes a completely different turn as we rush to make it to the Lake Apopka Northshore Wildlife Drive before the gates close. Driving the 11-mile loop, we spot an impressive number of alligators, including some of the biggest we’ve ever seen, finishing the drive with a total of 64 sightings. In the evening, we visit Winter Garden to eat at the Plant Street Market, where we finally try what many claim is the best mac and cheese around. As night falls, we walk through Winter Garden’s Christmas lights, soaking up the festive atmosphere before ending the day with a late-night stop at 7-Eleven. A full Florida day packed with unexpected highlights, wildlife encounters, great food, and a rare quiet moment at a Disney water park.
