Sunday, July 26 2020: MS WORLD DREAM ON THE WAY TO BETTER TIMES

Op Weg naar betere tijden! In de nacht van 25 maart 2020 arriveerde het cruiseschip World Dream van Dream Cruises in de Rotterdamse Botlekhaven bij Damen Ship Repair. Het schip, dat in 2017 door de Meyer Werft te Papenburg gebouwd werd, ging bij Damen in dok voor onderhoud. Vanaf 2 april kwam het schip op de Heiplaat aan de Uniport Terminal te liggen voor verder onderhoud en modernisering van de stroomvoorziening. Op zondag, 26 juli verliet World Dream de Waalhaven op weg naar de kust voor Scheveningen om zich te voegen bij de cruiseschepen Nieuw Statendam, Zaandam, Emerald Princess en Seabourn Ovation, die daar al voor anker liggen in afwachting op betere tijden. Dream Cruises beraadt zich nog over de toekomstige bestemmingen en het is nog niet zeker of het schip terug gaat naar de Aziatische wateren. World Dream was oorspronkelijk besteld door Star Cruises in februari 2014. In juli 2015 werd de kiel gelegd, op 26 augustus 2017 te water gelaten en afgebouwd op 26 oktober2017. In november 2017 werd het schip toegevoegd aan de vloot van Dream Cruises. De World Dream werd speciaal voor de Aziatische markt gebouwd, net als haar zusterschip Genting Dream. Het cruiseschip World Dream biedt plek aan 3.376 passagiers en 2000 personeelsleden. Ze is 335 meter lang en 39,7 meter breed. In de periode van 19 tot en met 24 januari werden 3 passagiers besmet bevonden met COVID-19. Alle 3800 passagiers en bemanningsleden verbleven vanaf 5 februari 2020 in quarantaine gedurende een week aan boord in de haven van Hong Kong, nadat Taiwan de toegang tot de haven van Kaohsiung geweigerd had. Het merendeel van de passagiers hoefden niet getest te worden omdat zij geen contact gehad hadden met de besmette Chinese passagiers gedurende die periode. Op 26 februari werden alle Indonesische passagiers en bemanningsleden geëvacueerd door de Indonesische Regering en met het hospitaalschip Dr Soeharso overgebracht naar Sebaru Kecil Island waar ze 14 dagen in quarantaine en observatie verbleven.
