The second of 'Steam Dreams' two planned 'Cathedral's Express' to Swanage on Thursday 14th June 2012 ran with BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70000 "Britannia". This was "Britannia's" first main line excursion in the Dorset Coast area this year and also the first since being repainted into BR Brunswick Green with Early Crests over the winter. The 'Cathedral's Express' ran a similar route to the one hauled by LNER A4-class 4-6-2 No.4464 "Bittern" on April 19th. This time however, the excrusion started in London rather than Banbury. But the same outward run was made with the train running round via Andover and Romsey to Southampton before "Britannia" ran aroun and worked the train tender-first to Swanage. The outward run was delayed at Romsey behind a long triple-headed Engineer's Train hauled by EWS Class 66 Diesels Nos.66088, 66046 and 66182. They passed through Redbridge about ten minutes before the 'Cathedral's Express'. This video shows "Britannia" on the outward run approaching Redbridge on the line from Romsey before running into Totton tender-first from the Causeway. Finally we see the excursion passing through Totton station on the return leg to London.
