The 'SWANAGE BELLE' with Nos.30777 "Sir Lamiel" + 37706 - 03/07/2010
YouTube Video Descriptionโ
With SR unrebuilt 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34067 "Tangmere" still out of action at Carnforth, and with the over-running overhaul of BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70000 "Britannia", and now with No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell" out of action too, the 'Railway Touring Company' and 'Steam Dreams' needed to find alternative motive power and means of completeing their railtours in the South of England. 2010 saw the start of a large number of excursions running from London down to Weymouth and Swanage throughout July, August and September. The first of these was the 'RTC's second 'Swanage Belle' on Saturday 3rd July. The original plan was to have one loco take to Swanage/one take it back to London like they did with SR N15-class 'King Arthur' 4-6-0 No.30777 "Sir Lamiel" and Ian Riley's LMSR 'Black 5'-class 4-6-0 No.44871 back in May. This time, only "Sir Lamiel" was available, so the 'Swanage Belle' was run in a similar pattern to 'UK Railtours's 'Purbeck Tornado' that ran a couple of weeks earlier. "Sir Lamiel" hauled the outward run from London Victoria to Swanage. It was assisted by WCRC Class 37 No.37706, who then hauled the first half of the return working from Swanage as far as Southampton Central. Finally, "Sir Lamiel" handled the last part from Southampton back to London via Romsey and Andover. In this video, we see "Sir Lamiel" and No.37706 pass through Totton on the outward run, then later we see them crossing the Redbridge Causeway hauled by No.37706 before "Sir Lamiel" passes through Redbridge Station and turns off onto the line heading towards Romsey.
