Ambassador Cruise Line is set to weigh anchor in April 2022, with the 70,200 gross ton ship Ambience, which last sailed in passenger service as Pacific Dawn for P&O Cruises. The formation of Ambassador Cruise Line is being overseen by a group of cruise executives, who were previously involved with the much loved CMV brand, which sadly ceased operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Interestingly, the former Pacific Dawn had been scheduled to join CMV this year and was planned to be renamed Amy Johnson before entering the UK market. When CMV collapsed, the ship remained laid up with P&O Cruises. The vessel started her career in 1991 as the Regal Princess. Designed by Renzo Piano her external profile was inspired by the bottle nosed dolphin. In 2007 she was transferred to P&O Cruises and commenced sailings out of Australia where she remained until 2020. The ship most recently sailed as Satoshi – having been purchased from P&O Cruises late last year to become a crypto-currency community off the coast of Panama. When that venture fell through, she was flagged for scrap – but thankfully with the formation of Ambassador Cruise Line, it appears her future has been secured. The new cruise line will operate from the UK port of Tilbury, making Ambiance one of the largest ships to utilise the London-based port. Her first cruises will take in short jaunts to Hamburg, while the rest of her maiden season will feature calls in Norway, Greenland, Russia, the Baltics, Iceland and the Arctic before repositioning to the Canaries, Cuba and Caribbean for the winter. With a skew towards the over-50s market, the companies first ship looks set to have a refresh before returning to service, with artists renditions showing a smart new purple and green livery, and the removal of P&O’s waterslides, rock climbing walls and games deck – which were aimed at families.
