Fiji is an independent island nation and is not part of any other country. It is located in the South Pacific Ocean, specifically in the region of Melanesia within Oceania. Fiji gained its independence from British rule in 1970. Fiji comprises an archipelago of more than 332 islands, of which 110 are permanently inhabited and the rest comprises uninhabited islands with over 500 islets. Fiji Airways, formerly Air Pacific, is the flag carrier of Fiji.
