YouTube Video Description↓

This video shows the view off the side of the Norwegian Bliss cruise ship as she travels through the new expanded Panama canal. During several parts of the video, you can see smaller ships going through the original, smaller portion of the canal, which runs parallel to the new, bigger portion of the canal. Because the Norwegian Bliss is so large, she had to use the larger side of the canal. In fact, she set a record for being the largest cruise ship to ever transit the Panama canal, so far. There are a lot of videos on YouTube which show ships going through the locks of the Panama canal. I don't think it's really necessary for me to make a video that other people have already made. So, this video focuses on the view AFTER the ship goes through the locks on the Caribbean side. I was really curious to see what the canal was like in that long portion between the two sets of locks. That's what this video shows, but I do also include the process of getting through the locks at the Pacific side. It took so long for our ship to get all the way through the canal that the sun set before we made it out in to the Pacific. With no more natural light, I decided to end the video before our ship reached the Bridge Of The Americas. This time lapse video was shot on a GoPro Hero 6 at on frame captured every 5 seconds. Therefore, what you see in this video happens at 150 times the speed of real life. In other words, what you see in just four and a half minutes in this video occured over a period of 11 hours in real time!
