We Small-Ship Cruised Alaska. Is this the best way? PART 2
Source: Our analysis of the creator's lived experience, based on what they said in this video.
Creator's Key Takeaways
We genuinely believe Alaska by small ship is the best way, possibly the only sensible way to experience this part of the world.
The captain slowed the ship to a crawl, which to his enormous credit is exactly what you'd want a captain to do in this situation.
There are very few moments in travel or in life, frankly, that earn the word privilege without irony. And this was one of them.
Windstar gets that. They're not taking you past Alaska. They're taking you into it.

We spent 11 nights on a small ship exploring the most spectacular coastline on the planet. This is Alaska to Vancouver — and we're doing it properly. Forget the floating apartment blocks. We're on board Windstar Cruises' Star Breeze — an elegantly compact ship that gets into hidden fjords, sidles up to calving glaciers, and sneaks into tiny ports the mega-ships can only dream about. This is Part 2 of our 11-night small ship voyage from Seward, Alaska to Vancouver aboard Windstar's Star Breeze — and things are getting properly epic. In this episode: 🏙️ Juneau — the only US state capital you can't drive to, where bald eagles sit on streetlights and the Red Dog Saloon has been legally recognised as the oldest man-made tourist attraction in town (which tells you everything) 🧊 Tracy Arm Fjord — we didn't make it in. Now we know why. (August 2025. Look it up.) 🇳🇴 Petersburg — Alaska's Little Norway, complete with Viking parades, compulsory herring-throwing, and the world's largest single-masted yacht inexplicably parked next to us 🐋 The Wrangell Narrows — hundreds of whales. Hundreds. You'll just have to watch. 🦅 Wrangell — four nations, one very underrated town, and a garnet mine run exclusively by children 🌧️ Prince Rupert, Canada — the wettest city in Canada, wolf safety tips in the phone book, and Grenville Channel, which is so beautiful it barely seems real 💥 Seymour Narrows — the underwater mountain that sank 119 ships, and the largest non-nuclear explosion in North American history Oh, and we also make the case — fairly comprehensively, we think — for why Alaska should always be done by small ship. 🚢 Ship: Windstar Star Breeze (312 guests | all-suite | post-2021 'stretch' refit) 📍 Route: Seward → Juneau → Tracy Arm → Petersburg → Wrangell → Prince Rupert → Grenville Channel → Seymour Narrows → Vancouver 🗓️ Series: Part 2 of 2 — [Part 1 here: https://youtu.be/TaC7RrbHw1o?si=5TeRkLoVkDhVChWL] Windstar Cruises | Inside Passage | Alaska Small Ship Cruise | Alaska Travel 2025 | Juneau Alaska | Tracy Arm Fjord | Petersburg Alaska | Wrangell Alaska | Prince Rupert BC | Grenville Channel | Seymour Narrows | Small Ship vs Mega Ship | Luxury Cruise Alaska If you enjoyed this, hit subscribe — we upload new travel content regularly, and there's considerably more of this sort of thing on the way. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Introduction 1:09 Juneau, crabs and Duck Farts 10:27 Tracy Arm, or it should've been! 12:32 Petersburg (Little Norway) and whales surround us! 20:07 Prince Rupert and Grenville Channel 26:03 Seymour Narrows 29:16 Our Conclusion 🔗 LINKS & RESOURCES ▶ Star Breeze Full Ship Tour: [https://youtu.be/3_GYEMKsqzA?si=T-rlPJZk7CNQkLL1] #AlaskaCruise #WindstarCruises #StarBreeze #AlaskaTravel #SmallShipCruise #HubbardGlacier #CollegeFjord #HumpbackWhales #AlaskaRailroad #CruiseReview #AlaskaVancouver #GlacierBay #IcyStraightPoint #TravelVlog #LuxuryCruise #ExpeditionCruise #AlaskaWildlife #AnchorageDO YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS SHIP, CRUISE LINE OR VOYAGE?
