YouTube Video Description

I Flew to Anchorage for an Alaskan Cruise: My Stay at the Wildbirch Hotel I arrived at the hotel just before 0300 and that's actually 0700 in FL. I thought I got it wrong in the video so I added a text that showed 0600. I was right the first time 🤣 When planning my Alaskan cruise aboard the Norwegian Jade, I knew I wanted to make the most of my time in Anchorage before embarking on the gorgeous train ride to Whittier. For this trip, I spent three nights at the newly rebranded Wildbirch Hotel—a property with a bit of personal history for me. I first stayed at this hotel in 2024, back when it was known as the Aviator Hotel. I even posted a video about my experience then, highlighting its fresh, modern vibe. Since that visit, the hotel has been acquired by JDV Hyatt and renamed the Wildbirch Hotel. The transformation has only enhanced its appeal: it’s beautiful, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable. The amenities are top-notch, with a great restaurant, a lively bar, a well-equipped gym, and its own coffee shop that opens bright and early every morning—perfect for early risers or those adjusting to the Alaskan time zone. A Bargain in Anchorage’s Pricey Hotel Scene Anchorage hotels can be shockingly expensive, especially during the busy summer tourist season. Most options I found were close to $400 per night or more. My usual go-to, the Hilton, was quoting an eye-watering $1,500 per night! In comparison, the Wildbirch Hotel was priced just under $300 per night—a huge bargain for the quality and location. Dining at and Around the Wildbirch While the hotel’s restaurant is excellent, I usually like to explore local dining spots when I travel. I did enjoy a fantastic breakfast at the hotel, but I also ventured out to nearby restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance. My favorite breakfast spot is the White Spot Cafe, which serves up the best sausage I’ve ever tasted. For lunch or dinner, Tequila 61 Degree Mexican restaurant is a solid choice, and I highly recommend the 49th Street Brewing Company for its great food, craft beer, and stunning views. Getting to the Hotel Getting from the airport to the Wildbirch Hotel was a breeze. My Lyft ride took about 20 minutes and cost $27, while Uber quoted $33. For a more budget-friendly option, you can take the #40 bus, which drops you about five blocks from the hotel. Just use the People Mover mStop app to pay your $2 fare—either show the QR code to the driver or pay with exact cash. The Perfect Location for Alaska Railroad Travelers One of the main reasons I chose the Wildbirch Hotel was its proximity to the Alaska Railroad train station. It’s just a five-minute walk downhill, making it incredibly convenient for anyone catching the train to Whittier or other Alaskan destinations. Final Thoughts I absolutely loved my stay at the Wildbirch Hotel and plan to return on future trips—unless the Hilton decides to offer a more reasonable rate than they have during my last two visits! For anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and value in Anchorage, the Wildbirch Hotel is a fantastic choice.
