Northern Iceland is such an amazing place to visit! Today we continue our adventures by exploring the area in and around Akureyri, Icland. We first visit Sigurgeir's Bird Museum, Fuglasafn Sigurgeirs. This was a complete surprise and delight! This museum houses nearly every bird that visits Iceland, nearly 420 different kinds! I'm not sure what I was expecting but this was amazing. The man who began all of this started taxidermy as a hobby. He loved preserving birds and when the word got out, people began bringing him the birds they would find in the wild that had died. After his death his children created this wonderful museum in his memory. Located on the banks of Lake Myvatn, it is literally in the middle of no where! They get thousands of visitors each year though! There is also a small family run cafe here and we had some of the best smoked meat! They were smoking it right outside the door! The last stop on our visit was to Godafoss, waterfall of the Gods! Godafoss cascades over a curved edge, spanning approximately 100 feet (30 meters) in width and plummeting 39 feet (12 meters) down into a serene and picturesque pool. We were there on such a nice day and got some amazing pictures! We returned from our excursion with plenty of time to explore the town of Akureyri. This cute little town is very walkable. We wondered around and looked in the shops in the downtown area. There were many places to stop and take pictures and to get yummy things to eat! We returned to our ship, the Norwegian Prima, in time for a dinner reservation that I had made when booking our cruise. We are dining at Cagney's Steak House. We had two vouchers for the pay restaurants and we are using one of those for our dinner tonight. The cruise line was running a "Free At Sea" promotion when we booked. Cagney's was a great experience and I would highly recommend. Just be careful when ordering the Hot Blueberry Crumble because it is HOT! We ended our evening back at our favorite spot in the evenings, Syd Norman's. Thank you for joining us on this very fun, exciting and beautiful day in Northern Iceland! We appreciate each and every subscriber! We know that we are, "Living the GOOD Life!" and we hope that you are too! Skol!
