We rented a car to make our own Shore Excursion around the Island and after dropping off the car, the craziness started, trying to find a Taxi that can take us back to the port area. The Taxi system in St. Thomas is controlled by a single company that don't allow you to freely find a taxi just anywhere, you have to go to specific places in order to find the service. Added to that inconvenience, they don't just take you to destinations, you have to wait for the taxi to fill up with certain amount of passengers, in order for them to start moving, added to that, they start making stops for everyone onboard, which can make your short trip a lot longer and stressful if you find yourself in a urgent situation, like our experience, trying to get back to the Cruise Ship on time, before they close the doors and we stay stranded in a foreign country, without documents and belongings.
