From our first World Cruise 2023 port of Marseilles, France we visited two old towns in Provence, Avignon and Aix or Aix-En-Provence. Our first visit was Avignon's old walled city. We visited the 14th century Papal Palace from a time when Popes lived in France instead of Rome, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our next visit was Aix-En-Provence with a cathedral that still shows Roman parts, the Cathedral of the Holy Saviour which also shows off architectural styles from the 5th to the 17th centuries. We walked through the historic district to the Mazarin Quarter, a 17th century residential area.
