Bologna Italy, Food capital. Lost in Railway station. Interesting city, old with history. Walking 4K

I have dedicated this description to help fellow travelers in this railway station. the Mayor of Bologna has just closed Piazza di Porta Ravegnana in order to “save” the Garisenda tower. We had a wonderful time doing a walking tour of Bologna (pronounced Bolonia) the restaurants were amazing and the food out of this world. Torre Towers are amazing especially Asinelli tower. Fontana Di Netuna is a fountain of beauty. Basilica de San Petronio was our highlight, it is extremely large inside. Arriving. It is easy to get confused coming out of this station, we followed signs that said Centro, our hotel is on city side. I thought this would be Centro side. It is not, we ended up on opposite side of station and had to come back in underground again to get to city side. once you are out it's a short easy walk 1.5 km from the station to the Piazza Maggiore & Netuno in the heart of the city center. Our hotel was the Astoria it is located about 200 meters from train station towards Piazza Maggiore, so it made it very easy to get to city and station but, there are available taxis outside the station if needed. Departure Please be aware that there are groups of teenagers running elevator scams when you come back into this station. we were warned by locals. Don't get on elevator with them. They will try and extort money or worse. If you look lost, they will target you. Find your own way safely and be careful here. Transfer to Bologna airport by the Marconi Express There is a metro running above ground) between Bologna Centrale and the airport. Don't get confused between the different platforms. Centrale main 1-11. Know whether you are on main Platforms 1-11, or platforms 1-4 East/Est or 1-7 West/Ovast. Treat these like 3 different railway stations. Check departure board very carefully. We were waiting on wrong platform East/Est not Centrale to Rome for 15 minutes before my wife Irina went back and checked departure board, we had to run twice as far in half the time, it is not fun!! Be aware that trains can change platforms from their original departure platforms. Changing trains at Bologna, allow extra time if you have not negotiated Bologna centrale before. Bologna Centrale operates Alta Velocita (AV) High speed trains from platforms 16-19 Platforms 1 to 4 East/Est (East side of the station) are terminus(dead-end) platforms, walk from the main station (1-11) along platform 1 to reach. Platforms 1 to 7 West/Ovest(West side of the station) are terminus(dead-end) platforms, The area in front of platforms 1-7 West/Ovest, Piazzale Ovest. There is an Italo ticket office located in the Piazzale Ovest. There are 3 pedestrian subways (East/Est, Centrale or West/Ovest) run from the main station underneath all these platforms. Please do not rush these subways without reading signs carefully.
