Cruising New Zealand's Stunning Milford Sound

Milford Sound is a fiord or fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island within Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve. Situated on the west coast of the South Island, Milford Sound is a must-see with its towering peaks, cascading waterfalls and jaw-dropping views. It is, arguably, one of the most famous beauty spots in New Zealand. We were on a World Cruise that travelled through the sound but there are boat trips with day and overnight tours from land that explore the sound and it's amazing waterfalls. When we were there it was rainy and the waterfalls were thundering down the mountainsides. It’s known for towering Mitre Peak, plus rainforests and waterfalls like Stirling and Bowen falls, which plummet down its sheer sides. Other Milford Sound activities include hiking, snorkelling, kayaking and diving.
