Exploring Skagway, Alaska - The best port on our Alaska Cruise?

This was our favourite day of our Alaska cruise. Skagway oozes charm and character from its Klondike gold rush past. It attracts tourists many of which pile onto the White Pass railroad which is the main attraction here. It is a tourist trap but it’s really rather nice. Great shops and cafes. However it’s always worth stepping away from the main tourist areas to get a sense of what it’s like for the locals. Skagway is probably a very sleepy place when the cruise ships are not in town. We pushed the boat out with our paid excursion. It was the most expensive excursion of our trip but boy was it worth it. Our helicopter trip down the fjords was breathtaking. We landed on Meade Glacier where we were taken on a guided walk which taught us about the life cycle and features of the glacier.
