As the only port of call on an 11 night transatlantic cruise from Barcelona, Spain to Port Canaveral, FL, Funchal on the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira was absolutely stunning! This trip was aboard Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. This is definitely one place I hope to visit again for a much longer stay than a cruise port of call. I did this trip solo and took the Citysightseeing Hop on Hop off Bus to Pico dos Barcelos for amazing views of the island. Then on to the enchanting fishing village of Camara de Lobos where Churchill once visited to paint the beautiful harbor. Then down the coast to Old Town Funchal with its wonderful mosaic stoned pedestrian zones surrounded by sidewalk cafes, stunning churches, and a beautiful beach and waterfront.
