About our Bacon Score methodologyYouTube Video Descriptionβ
Costa Maya is Mexico's second largest cruise port. When traveling to a new port you want to know what to expect and how much time to spend there. There have also been some updates to Costa Maya Cruise Port. We are going to go over everything you need to know for your visit. Stay tuned for all that and more. Last time we visited Costa Maya cruise port we didnβt know how much was there at the port and would have planned our day differently if we had known. When we did our most recent Caribbean Cruise we were quite surprised with how much has changed in the last two years. In terms of arrival and departure that has not changed. There is a dock, so you do not need to tender. It is a long dock without any shade so be sure to have a hat and already have your sunscreen on. This time we were in Costa maya, Royal Caribbean was who we sailed with. The trolley is still running so if you would rather use the trolley itβs available and for people with mobility needs it's a great option. For our sailing right at the end of the dock they did have security who were asking everyone to hand sanitize and wear a mask. On the way back to the ship they asked to see your cruise card, as they usually do. There is a new Costa Maya excursions area right at the end of the dock. This is where you will meet your group or book your last minute excursion. This is a faux port, that is created explicitly for the cruise industry so you wont get an authentic experience here but that said it is still a nice touch of Mexico. We get asked all the time, What things to do in Costa Maya? There is a lot to do here and I mean a lot. There is a ton of shopping from jewelry to leather to a drugstore. There is a pool with a sand beach and lounge chairs. This is not on the beach but does have a swim up bar. There is another swim up bar which used to be a lazy river but it doesn't have the inner tubes, or at least didn't when we were there. There are other experiences you can pay for like the Dolphin Discovery which is an opportunity to swim with the dolphins, this was running and was very popular. KaCow is a chocolate museum with some exhibits on how chocolate is made and its importance to Mexico. Tequila is an interactive presentation on how tequila is made and also of course a tequila taste testing. There is also mayan Healing Rituals. If you would be interested in a few of these then you might want to look into the port pass which allows you access to the Aviary, Kakaw chocolate museum, tequila and Akβau snorkelling. Regardless of the cruise line you are sailing to Costa Maya , Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line or someone else, this port has so much it is really up to you to decide what you want it to be. This time I felt that it was a lot more commercialized, as they have now made the entrance into the main area into a new large duty free. But if you want to enjoy the Mexican sun and swim you can do that. There are also different experiences right at the port if you want to try something new.
