NORWEGIAN PRIMA - Extraordinary Naming Ceremony

On August 27, the NORWEGIAN PRIMA, the first of six planned Prima-class cruise ships, was christened in Reykjavik, Iceland. Godmother was the American singer and songwriter Katy Perry. Guests at the naming ceremony witnessed a breathtaking performance by the popular Icelandic group Daði og Gagnamagnið, made famous by the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Godmother Katy Perry then took to the main stage to officially christen the ship with the ceremonial breaking of the champagne bottle on the ship’s hull. The three-story Prima Theater & Club stage was then transformed into an extraordinary setting where guests enjoyed a powerful performance of some of Perry’s top hits including „California Gurls“, „Teenage Dream“, „Roar“ and „Firework“. „It was so much fun putting some pixie dust on Norwegian Prima and sending her out to sea,“ said Katy Perry. „I’m always happy about a family holiday and a unique experience, so I wish all holiday guests a safe journey!“ Before the naming ceremony, guests were treated to an authentic Icelandic experience at the HARPA cultural center. Attendees were treated to an immersive LED light show by artist Olafur Eliasson, as well as performances by Icelandic singer-songwriter Bríet and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in one immersive show. NORWEGIAN PRIMA (IMO 9823986) was built at Fincantieri in Margherea.
