Subscribe to the Eat Sleep Cruise YouTube Channel if you love to travel and cruise the world! https://www.youtube.com/c/EatSleepCruise1?sub_confirmation=1 This past week, we received a number of unexpected cruise updates and news from the major cruise lines. With new health measures, more itinerary changes, and further cruise cancellations, it was quite a busy week. Donβt worry if you are not current, we have you covered with our latest video addressing all the major cruise headlines and news of this past week. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! The biggest announcement came Friday afternoon by CLIA, the trade group that represents most major cruise lines. The press release indicated that member cruise lines have agreed to a further voluntary suspension of cruising through September 15th. This comes on the heels of other news reports about cruise line websites being down and cruises being removed or un-bookable. In this announcement, CLIA indicated that due to the ongoing situation within the U.S. related to COVID-19, member cruise lines have decided to voluntarily extend the period of suspended passenger operations from cruising departing from the US. Preceding this announcement, Norwegian Cruise Line had reported more cruise cancellations. The company announced that it was further suspending all cruising through the end of August. Further, the line was cancelling almost all cruises in September, minus two ships. Specifically, the line was still looking to sail to Alaska on two of its ships, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy. The line also cancelled Canada/New England cruises for the remainder of the year. In Virgin Voyages news, the cruise lineβs second ship, Valiant Lady, touched water for the first time this week. This float out marks a major milestone in the shipβs construction. Virgin Voyages also announced its new health and safety protocols, known as the Voyage Well program. This new program includes a number of precautions and procedures that will be in place when Virgin Voyages starts sailing again later this year. Along with the typical announcements, such as social distancing in restaurants and entertainment venues, limited capacity, and enhanced onboard sanitation, the line did indicate it was going to implement a virtual queue system for some onboard entertainment and activities. Further, the line did comment that it would require sailors to wear face coverings if it were still the recommendation on land. Carnival Corporation also made headlines this past week when it announced that it would be getting rid of six ships within the upcoming 90 days. While Carnival Corp owns several brands with a total of 100 ships, the company has not given any indication just yet as to which ships would be pulled from operation or from which fleets. Lastly, the CDCβs new color-coded system for allowing cruise lines to repatriate crew went live this past week. Currently, most cruise lines have provisional status, with Bahamas Paradise Cruise Lineβs Grand Celebration being the first ship to receive a green rating.
