Our final day in Shanghai didn’t go quite as planned… and that turned out to be a very good thing. After disembarking Spectrum of the Seas, we show just how smooth and simple the cruise disembarkation process in Shanghai really is. But things quickly took an unexpected turn when a problem paying our cab driver caused our Alipay apps to shut down, making it suddenly difficult to pay for just about anything. 😬 With our original plans thrown out the window, we decided to explore closer to our hotel—and that’s when we discovered the ancient water town of Chuansha, right on our doorstep. What followed was one of the most memorable days of the entire trip. From the impressive Heming Tower, ancient city walls, and beautiful historic temples, to wandering quiet streets that felt worlds away from modern Shanghai, Chuansha completely surprised us. We loved browsing the shops, tasting local food, and even exploring an impressive shopping mall that blended old and new China perfectly. Best of all, we spent time chatting with incredibly friendly locals who were curious about why we were there and genuinely eager to help us make the most of our visit. This unplanned detour turned out to be the perfect ending to an unforgettable journey—our first time visiting China, cruising to Jeju Island, and spending time in wonderful Japan with friends. Shanghai gave us some incredible memories, but Chuansha delivered something truly special.
