Due to the pandemic, both ships have yet to sail with paying passengers but are still scheduled to commence domestic cruising from Australia in December this year. It remains to be seen whether or not that actually happens, but in the meantime, each of the ships must undergo comprehensive refurbishments to bring them into line with P&O Australia’s branding and onboard experience. The ex Star Princess has already begun her transformation into the Pacific Encounter, but the ex Golden Princess has yet to be touched and still sports her Princess livery. I have been informed by a source, that wishes to remain anonymous, that after the ships transit the famous Suez Canal, they will each sail to Italy where they will complete their dry docks. Chatter online had suggested that the ships were en route to European waters for a range of reasons from scrapping, to more affordable anchorages to a last minute European cruise season for vaccinated Europeans. Instead, the journey across the globe will, according to information I’ve been given, allow the ships to finally complete their transformations. This should be good news for Australian cruising fans, as assuming the report is correct, it means that P&O is ensuring that both the Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter will be ready to sail in Australian waters just as soon as cruising is allowed to restart. Let me know in the comments below, do you think dry dock is the likely reason for their cross-the-world journeys? Thanks for watching, and see you soon!
