Traveling from Palencia to San Sebastian Spain 🇪🇸 didn’t go as planned… this Spain travel day turned into an unexpected journey with train disruptions, bus transfers, and a long slow train ride through northern Spain. If you’re planning train travel in Spain, this is a real look at what can happen along the way. We started our morning leaving Elda Hotel Central in Palencia Spain, walking to the train station in the rain, thinking it would be a simple trip north to San Sebastian. But due to recent high-speed train issues in Spain, the tracks were under maintenance, and instead of boarding our train, we were redirected onto a bus to the next available station. From there, things didn’t exactly speed up… We boarded a slow regional train across northern Spain, making multiple stops along the way, turning this into a 5+ hour travel day instead of the quick journey we expected. Along the way, we passed through small villages, mountains, and even long tunnels cutting through the landscape—getting a glimpse of a side of Spain most travelers don’t always see. After finally arriving in San Sebastian Spain, we made our way through the city, taking in the incredible architecture and first impressions, before checking into our stay at Pension Aida. Once settled in, we did what we often do—headed to a local grocery store to grab some basics, keeping things simple after a long day of travel. Sometimes the best travel days aren’t the easiest ones… they’re the ones you didn’t plan.
