The 'DORSET COAST EXPRESS' with Nos.70013 "Oliver Cromwell" + 47500 - 13/09/2011
YouTube Video Descriptionβ
The eleventh and final run of the 'Railway Touring Company's 2011 'Dorset Coast Express' excursions on Tuesday 13th September. A repeat performance of the run the previous week with BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell" and a Class 47 Diesel in charge. Amazingly, the weather was the complete opposite to what it was the previous week: wet and windy to dry and sunny. In this video, we see "Oliver Cromwell" passing through Totton with the outward run from London to Weymouth. Later, WCRC Class 47 No.47500 brings the train back as far as Southampton Central, crossing the Redbridge Causeway with "Cromwell" attached to the rear. Finally, "Cromwell" passes slowly through Redbridge Station before turning off towards Romsey and Andover on its way back to London. This wasn't the only steam working in the area on this day. LNER A4-class 4-6-2 No.60019 "Bittern" (running as No.4492 "Dominion of New Zealand") ran 'light-engine' with its Support Coach back from Swanage to Eastleigh in readiness for working the 'Bath Spa Express' the following day.
