About our Bacon Score methodologyYouTube Video Descriptionβ
In 1346, rumours were spreading around European trading ports of a deadly, all-consuming epidemic to the far East. When the disease, now known as the Black Death, did reach Europe courtesy of trade routes, the resulting spread was catastrophic - killing as many as 70 million people in Europe alone. Globally, around half of the world's population is believed to have perished to this terrifying and unstoppable illness, and several recurrences throughout history make the bubonic plague the most deadly pandemic in history. Today, we retrace its roots to its origins in the planes of Central Asia, and look at how this illness managed to ravage the global population so quickly, and how superbugs and antibiotic misuse is threatening to dangerously reinvigorate the illness in some of the world's most populated areas.
