The history of Mysore Palace in India
YouTube Video Description↓
Welcome to one of my favourite places in India... While schoolchildren the world over know about the Taj Mahal, Mysore Palace slips right under the radar. It's one of the most visited places in Karnataka, a state bounded by Kerala to the south, Tamil Nadu to the south east and the Arabian Sea to the west. But to the rest of the world, and even to those in the north of India, its presence in everyday consciousness is lighter than a dream. Here's what it's all about. 🏛️ Queen Regent Kempananjammanni Vanivilasa Sanndihana commissioned British architect Henry Irwin to build this version - a masterpiece of Indo-Saracenic design. It was completed in 1912. 💡It's best seen by night. Over 97,000 electric bulbs stud the palace - glowing every Sunday night in a spectacle that rivals some of the most impressive light shows I've ever seen. ⚡ All that said, this place has experienced some serious bad luck. In 1638, lightning struck…and later, it went up in smoke during the wedding of Princess Jayalakshmmanni in 1897.
