About our Bacon Score methodologyYouTube Video Descriptionβ
Cambodia has a rich and mysterious history and Scenic are starting our journey in Siem Raep; the launching pad to the country's most awe inspiring discovery. There are some monuments around the world that make you just step back and admire the sheer brilliance and effort that went into completing them. The first thing that you realize here at Angkor Wat is its size and its presence here in the jungle but then this bizarre tranquility and calm comes over you and you realize this is one very special place. Angkor Wat is on the world travelers must see list and stands as the most impressive display of the mighty Khmer Empire. It was lost for over 400 years but it's now the most visited site in Cambodia. The original stairs that led up into the temple are incredibly steep but you've got to remember that Angkor Wat was seen as a gateway to the universe. So even if you had the purest of heart you still had to put in a bit of effort to make the transition. David: βWhyβs Angkor Wat so important to the Cambodian people?β Guide: βBecause it is a largest religious temple in the world that's made in Cambodia and was built by the Khmer King at the time believed that was the largest construction and the best quality of architecture, scale and design. David: βIt's just incredible isnβt it?β Guide: βYeah yeah it is awesome.. I love this place so muchβ Just beyond Angkor Wat, Scenic have also lined up a visit to the movie set of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider; the now infamous Ta Prohm. Left mostly as it was found by the missionaries it's one of the most popular stops and you have to admit quite an impressive backdrop. The Khmer Empireβs capital city was Angkor Thom, which is home to the beautifully preserved Bayon Temple; but I guess more importantly today this is one of the country's most important archaeological sites. These intricate carvings you can see here run us through a story of what life was like back in the 12th century, it's like an ancient story board. From daily life, right through to ancient battles with crocodiles, these stone walls come alive and they guide you into the very heart of the temple, her famous stone faces; keeping a close eye on her visitors. After a big day of exploring all you want to do is come back to your hotel and relax and Scenic have this great reputation for putting their guests in the very best hotels possible. The Park Hyatt in Siam Raep ticks all the boxes, it's French influence mixed with Asian fusion all sums up to being the perfect place to unwind and get ready for your next adventure in Cambodia.
