Because of the limited travel restrictions due to the coronavirus, there are limited possibilities to repatriate crew members by flight, it was decided to bring the workers home safely via the fleet. Alle cruiserederijen hebben hun reizen voor onbepaalde tijd moeten staken vanwege de wereldwijde uitbraak van het Corona virus. Tienduizenden bemanningsleden - afkomstig uit onder meer Europa, de Filippijnen, Indonesië, India, Zuid-Afrika en Zuid-Amerika - kwamen op non-actief te staan. Omdat er door geldende reisrestricties vanwege het coronavirus maar beperkte mogelijkheden zijn om bemanningsleden per vlucht te repatriëren werd besloten om de werknemers veilig thuis te brengen via de vloot. Vanuit thuishavens in de Verenigde Staten werden de schepen bevoorraad en voorzien van brandstof, en werden de repatrianten per bestemming geselecteerd. Bemanningsleden die met de schepen werden gerepatrieerd ondergingen een grondige gezondheidscontrole. Alleen met een goedgekeurde gezondheidsverklaring werd men aan boord toegelaten. Ook gedurende de reis werden de werknemers regelmatig gecontroleerd op hun gezondheid. De Nederlandse en andere Europese bemanningsleden kwamen allen van schepen van de Holland America Group. Het ging om bemanning van de rederijen Holland America Line, Seabourn en Princess. De opvarenden worden vanaf de kade per bus of met een vlucht vanaf Schiphol naar huis gebracht. De repatriëringsactie van Holland America vindt plaats conform de richtlijnen van het RIVM.
