2023 Hawaii Day 9: Best 5 things to do with only 1 day on the Big Island, Hawaii.

Our itinerary got changed on our 7 day Hawaiian islands cruise on the Norwegian Cruise Line Pride of America because of a hurricane that hit the south east side of the big island. So instead of going to Hilo, we went to the Kona side a day early. So after our tender ride to Kona, and a stop in the local ABC store, we made the most of our one day on the big island of Hawaii by renting a Turo and driving all around the island. First we drove across the saddle road, between the volcanoes, and up to Volcanoes National Park. We check out the visitors center, the sulphur vents and an art gallery with modern Hawaiian art. We then visit the crater rim of Kilauea and hike through a lava tube. After that we drove down to the southern end of the island and and the southernmost town in the U.S. Punalu'u, where we see dozens of green sea turtles at the black sand beach, then go into town to stop at the Punalu'u Bake Shop; The southernmost bakery in the U.S.A.
