YouTube Video Description

Small ship cruising is new to me and this was a VERY small cruise ship, the smallest I've ever been on, with just 21 cabins for a maximum of 42 passengers. I've always wanted to go to the Seychelles, (an archipelago 1400 miles off the coast of Africa) and Greek liner Variety Cruises have a wonderful week-long itinerary on a yacht called Pegasos which sails roundtrip from Mahe Island - the main island in the Seychelles. There are 115 islands in the archipelago, only four of which are inhabited. This cruise took us to about a dozen of these islands and the liner really does live up to its name: VARIETY. The variety of the itinerary was amazing. This video is both a ship tour / review and potted version of exactly what this cruise experience is like. I look at the seating areas on top deck and then we look at the lounge/breakfast area and bar before heading to the outside terrace which is where most meals are eaten. The video also looks at a cabin, but for an in-depth look at the cabin check out my cabin review video. The beauty of a small ship is that you get to do lots of things you wouldn't on a big ship - the captain even allowed me to drive the ship (yes really)! We were always taken to land in inflatable zodiac boats because the ship is too big to dock on most of the islands and has to anchor at sea. We saw lots of giant tortoises (the Seychelles is one of only two places in the world where you'll now find these reptiles). We also visit a bird sanctuary on Cousin Island, go snorkelling lots (I swam with hawksbill turtles which was amazing) and visit countless stunning beaches which the Seychelles is so famed for. Anse Lazio beach has been voted one of the world's top ten beaches and Anse Source D'Argent was the location for the Tom Hanks movie Castaway. Remember that one? The crew were outstanding - they're very generous with rum shots. The video sees me trying some local varieties. Other highlights included cycling on the island of La Digue and visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site of Vallee de Mai, where you'll find the Coco de Mer, the largest seed in the world. They weigh 25 kilos and the video sees me struggling to hold one. The food on board was amazing - shoutout to the chef. We even had some dancers come on board to perform the native 'Moutya' dance and then were invited to try it ourselves. Watch the video to see if I was any good! The video ends in the capital of Mahe which is called Victoria - it's the smallest capital in the world. I recommend staying here pre or post cruise - I stayed in a gorgeous hotel called Carana Beach Hotel which I thoroughly recommend - look out for a separate video coming out just on that hotel and on things to see and do in Mahe. Bottom line: this was a phenomenal cruise and vacation which is great value and which I can't recommend highly enough. Further information: www.varietycruises.com www.seychelles.com
