YouTube Video Description

🌴 Join us for a beautiful day on Santa Catalina Island during our Navigator of the Seas cruise by Royal Caribbean! 🌴 After departing from Long Beach, California, and enjoying a relaxing sea day, we arrived at the stunning Santa Catalina Island. Here’s how our day unfolded: 📜 Catalina Island History: Catalina Island, located off the coast of Southern California, has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Originally inhabited by the Tongva people, it became a popular resort destination in the early 20th century. William Wrigley Jr. of chewing gum fame purchased a controlling interest in the island in 1919, developing it into the tourist haven it is today. 🚤 Tendering Process: I watched the tendering process from my balcony. For those unfamiliar, tendering involves smaller boats ferrying passengers from the ship to shore when the ship is anchored offshore. It’s a common procedure for cruise ships visiting ports without large docks. 🌞 Exploring Avalon: After stepping off the tender boat, I was greeted by perfect weather in Avalon, the island’s only incorporated city. I considered renting a golf cart or e-bike, popular ways to explore the island, but decided to enjoy a leisurely walk instead. Avalon is brimming with food and shopping options, making it a great place to explore on foot. 🎭 The Catalina Casino: My next stop was The Catalina Casino, a historic landmark that’s neither a gambling hall nor a hotel. Built in 1929 by William Wrigley Jr., this art deco masterpiece houses a theater and a grand ballroom, making it a cultural hub on the island. 🤝 Meeting Brittney & More Discoveries: Brittney joined me after finishing some work, and she shared fascinating insights about Royal Caribbean and how they pioneered the mega cruise ship era. We then strolled back toward the town center. 🍕 Lunch at Antonio’s Pizzeria and Deli: We decided to eat at Antonio’s Pizzeria and Deli, a beloved local eatery. Antonio’s has been a staple in Avalon for decades, known for its classic Italian dishes and laid-back atmosphere. 🛍️ Shopping Onboard: After a delightful day in Avalon, we returned to the Navigator of the Seas and did some onboard shopping, picking up some electronics. Brittney has a pro-tip for all the tech enthusiasts out there, so stay tuned for that! 🍝 Dinner at Jamie's Italian by Jamie Oliver: We ended our day with an exquisite meal at Jamie’s Italian, a specialty restaurant onboard. Founded by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, this restaurant offers Tuscan-inspired cuisine crafted with passion and flair. Jamie’s Italian is renowned for bringing authentic, rustic Italian dishes to the high seas. 🚢 What’s Next?: After a fantastic day, we wrapped things up and got ready for the next adventure.
