YouTube Video Description

This 26 minute video captures one of the final Christmas Cruises aboard P&O Cruises S.S. FAIRSTAR, considered by many to have been the most popular Australian-based cruise ship of all time. The FAIRSTAR was built in 1957 as the British troop ship OXFORDSHIRE and then completely rebuilt in 1964 into an emigrant liner for Sitmar Line. She started full time cruising in 1974. The video begins on sailing day at the Pyrmont Terminal, followed by three days at sea, then visits to Vila (Vanuatu), Mystery Island (Vanuatu), Isle of Pines (New Caledonia) and Noumea (New Caledonia), then Christmas and another day at sea and FAIRSTAR's return to Sydney's Circular Quay. The video concludes with FAIRSTAR depating on her next cruise. She would have three more years to go before being sold to the shipbreakers at Alang, India. #fairstar #funship #popularcruiseships #vanuatu #newcaledonia #P&OCruises #Australiancruising #classicliners #classiccruiseships
